Step 1 of 7 on the VA career path

GoHighLevel VA: Skills, Tasks and Jobs

GoHighLevel ("GHL") is the all-in-one marketing and CRM platform many agencies and small businesses run on. VAs who can build and run it are in steady demand, and you can learn it without a client.

What the work is

GoHighLevel, often shortened to GHL or HighLevel, puts a business's CRM, sales pipelines, funnels and websites, email and text campaigns, calendars and automations in one account. Marketing agencies use it heavily, often under their own brand name, and give each client a "sub-account".

A GHL VA keeps those accounts running: building and fixing funnels, setting up pipelines, writing workflows that send the right message at the right time, and keeping contact data clean. In job posts it shows up under titles like GHL specialist, CRM assistant, funnel builder, marketing automation VA, and in many sales and appointment-setting roles where the CRM is GHL.

Typical tasks

Tools you'll use:

How to learn it

  1. Start a trial account and rebuild a simple funnel and pipeline for an invented business (a dentist, a roofer, a coach).

  2. Use HighLevel's own help center and video tutorials; they cover every feature step by step.

  3. Practice workflows: "new lead from a form → tag → welcome email → task for the sales rep → reminder before the call".

  4. Learn the words: sub-account, snapshot, pipeline, trigger, workflow, custom field (see the glossary).

How to show you can do it

Clients hire proof, not promises. Two or three of these in your applications will set you apart:

Mentor tip

Put your best sample first and keep it short. A client deciding between twenty applicants will look at one thing for thirty seconds. Make it count.

Questions people ask

What does GHL mean for a virtual assistant?

GHL is short for GoHighLevel, a CRM and marketing platform. A "GHL VA" builds and runs things inside it: funnels, pipelines, workflows and calendars. Our glossary entry explains the term in more detail.

Is GoHighLevel hard to learn?

It's big, but not hard. Most VAs learn the parts their client uses first (usually pipelines, calendars and workflows) and add the rest over time. Building one complete funnel-to-booking setup for an invented business is the best practice.

Do I need a paid account to learn GoHighLevel?

You need access to an account to practice. HighLevel has offered trials, and many agencies give new VAs access to a sandbox account. Check the current options on HighLevel's own site.
